Hi, I’m Kaytlynd the new youth pastor out here at Howell. I am so excited about what is happening here at Life Christian! I recently graduated from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I majored in Youth Ministry. I grew up in church, watching my parents as youth pastors ever since I can remember. I saw them in ministry and admired them so much for all that he did, knowing that youth ministry is fun, but also very challenging. Initially I had said I’d be an English teacher and a coach someday, but in the middle of High School while at a church summer camp, I realized that God wanted something different for me.
Every year at camp, I would ask my youth to put me in a room with people I did not know because I loved meeting random people my age. Well, I was almost 16 and my room was mostly incoming 6th graders at camp. I was frustrated not to be in a room with kids my age so I decided to just enjoy the week the way I wanted and go to the things that were important to me, alone. I would get up in the morning and go to early-morning prayer time in the auditorium, and I’d get to our team flag early for cheers, play basketball in the afternoon and then go straight to pre-service prayer after I quickly ate my dinner. The next morning as I walked to early-morning prayer, I looked behind me and saw a girl from my room trailing behind. She didn’t say anything; she just followed. The same happened for pre-service prayer.
The following morning when I left, I could see a few more trailing behind, following me to go pray in the auditorium. And then that night after the service, many of the girls in my room talked about how they hadn’t learned about Jesus like this before and that they wanted to start learning to pray. It was so cool to see that God could use me to influence these young ladies.
The next morning as I left, I saw a few of them all dressed and ready sitting on the bed by the door, and we all walked to early morning prayer together. That night after service, a few of them sat by my bunk and asked me questions about what the pastor meant that night about the Holy Spirit. We stayed up for hours as they asked questions about all of it. It was an awesome experience.
The next morning, most of the girls in my room and the one joined to ours got up early to go pray. And going into pre-service prayer that night, I could just see it that they were all just expecting God to move. All that we had talked about the night before was making sense and they were ready to chase after God.
That night in service, all of them went down at the end of service.
Many of them asked to be prayed for, some for salvation and others for healing in areas of their lives. At the end of the night, as we were praying with them, were filled with the Holy Spirit. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.
God really did a work in the lives of the girls in my room and because of this, God did something in my own life. Sitting in the back at the end of service, I just couldn’t stop smiling. I loved seeing people choose to follow God and surrender their lives to him. It was that night I knew I’d go into youth ministry.
I think about this night all the time. It’s one of the things that motivates me as I step into this new role at Life Christian Church. I know that God has some great things in store for our students, our community, our church, and for me. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
